9:00AM Course opens. Packets available for High School and Middle School .

9:45am Men and Women (all ages) Open 5k. Race day registration only, $10

Finish in Two Chutes. Awards to top 10 Males and Females as they finish.

10:30am Boys and Girls Middle School Race. 2 mile course and finish in two

Chutes. Awards to top 15 Boys and top 15 Girls as they finish.

11:00am High School Coaches Meeting @ awards platform next to Finish Line.

11:30am High School Boys 5k (Top 7). Awards for top 20 individuals and 3 teams.

12 Noon High School Girls 5k. (Top 7) Awards for top 20 indiv. And top 3 teams

12:45pm HS Boys JV 5k(11-12) unlimited.Awards top 10 indivs,team champion.

1:15pm HS Girls JV 5k (11-12)

2:00pm HS Boys JV 5k (9-10)

At the midpoint of the season, I just wanted to say "Thank You" to the folks that follow this blog, and the athletes and coaches that provide such fabulous material for its content. Recently, the blog has surpassed the 5,000 hit mark (fitting, I think, 5K). The team has so much more to accomplish ahead of them, I hope everyone will continue to follow their trek to the winner's podium at Great Meadows. Thank you one and all. Any feedback/suggestions on how to improve will also be greatly appreciated.

Summary of the Great American

Deb Tyson has asked me to be one of the guinea pigs in developing a new website for the AHS athletic department. Here is the summary of Saturday's races that I wrote for that site:

The "Race of Champions" boys divisional race at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, NC, was everything it was hyped up to be. Featuring eighteen teams, fourteen of which have national or regional rankings, the race was run on the one of the fastest courses in the Southeast. The cooler temperatures and quick conditions produced a sub-15:00 course record by a young man from Florida.

The Albemarle boys team placed seventh overall, and was the top Virginia team. Midlothian, last year's AAA State Champions, finished ninth. AHS was lead by Adam Visokay (15:16), who placed fifth overall. The 5K time Adam put up leads the Commonwealth at the midway point of the season. Contributing to the team scoring behind Adam were Ryan Thomas (15:54), Ben Deal (15:55), Aaron Elder (16:49), and Joe Krohn (16:53). Chris Springer (16:54) and Keith Montminy (17:28) rounded out the stellar team performance.

AHS was not finished however. Coach Male entered five runners in the most competitive JV race, and, like their teammates, these athletes were the top Virginia team and placed fourth. Led by the sixth place finish of Will Hunt (17:14), the boys were just one point out of third. In addition to Will, scoring were David Kwiatkowski (17:37), Rowen Perry (17:44), Zach Coffman (17:45), and Guillaume Bailey (18:11).

Brandon Miles wrote a nice article about the Great American, including an objective paragraph about the clash of the two Virginia AAA powerhouses. I imagine his "Cream of the Crop" ranking will change this week.
